We’re all about the benefits of using non-toxic skin care products around here but what about when it comes to our home? How can we be sure to detox our homes too? A large aspect of obtaining healthy skin is practicing good skin hygiene and utilizing non-toxic products and the same goes for our homes too. There are many components within our homes and work spaces that may be culprits to toxicity and can be aggravating to both internal and external health.

Most all commercial cleaning agents are harmful to our health, children’s health and our pet’s too. They’re toxic through inhalation or by contact on skin. If you have any doubt or want to know how toxic most commercial home cleaning products are, simply smell them or better yet, read the warning signs on their labels. They’ll state just how dangerous they are and how many toxic chemicals they contain. These types of conventional cleaning products are not only neurotoxic but they can disrupt our endocrine systems and are linked to cancer, asthma and allergic reactions.

If you’re ready to ditch the commercial cleaning products, and detox your home, below are some great options to start with!

Dr Bronner’s – Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner – All-purpose cleaner: pine cleaner for floors, laundry and dishes.

Branch Basics Starter Kit – This starter kit has everything you need for cleaning your home, doing laundry and washing your hands as well as body.

DIY Household Cleaning Products

If you’re more of a DIY type of person, you could also get the following ingredients: baking soda, cornstarch, vinegar, liquid Castile soap, citrus fruit like lemons/oranges, essential oils and reusable glass bottles to keep or pour these solutions in to.

As an example, a good multi purpose cleaner would be composed of: one quart of water (32 oz), 1/8 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup vinegar and as an option but not a necessity 5-10 drops of an essential oil like lavender, tea tree or lemon oil.

Once you’ve transition to cleaner household products, it might even open up a new perspective in regards to your home. Along side chemical-free house cleaning products, I also like to seek out sustainable furniture. One of the pieces I am most proud of has got to be The Essential Sofa from Sabai. The velvet is made from 100% recycled water bottles and it isn’t treated with any chemicals. Not to mention how aesthetically pleasing it is.
